Volunteering with the KAA

The Kittery Art Association is a member driven volunteer organization. Our Exhibiting Artists and Supporters make us who we are, and your active involvement in your local arts community allows the KAA to successfully to remain open to the public for normal business hours, offer a rotating exhibition schedule, lively receptions and programming, and much, much, more. Please read through to learn about ways that you can get involved as a KAA Member and Supporter!

Primary Volunteering Opportunities at the Kittery Art Association

Gallery Sitting: Our gallery sitters are responsible for opening, closing, and staffing the gallery during regular business hours. Gallery Sitters greet visitors, process sales, fill out the gallery log, and record any sales from the exhibit or the gallery shop. If you are a KAA Member who would like to train as a Gallery Sitter, please email us at info@kitteryartassociation.org - we are happy to pair you up with an experienced member who will be able to train you!

Receptions and Special Events: We always need volunteers to help with set up and support our Opening Receptions and Events Committee. At all openings and events, volunteers may be responsible for setting up seating and tables, arranging refreshments including food/wine/beverages, greeting visitors, collecting admission, and clean up. Refreshments for our receptions and events are a group effort. We encourage members to volunteer to bring light snacks, wine, and beverages to share for Opening Receptions.

Art Installation Crew: The KAA is grateful to have an amazing group of volunteers who are responsible for the installation of artwork submitted for All Member Exhibits. We do need a small group of dedicated volunteers who are willing to prep, patch, and touch up the paint on the gallery walls before and after Exhibits.

Art Intake Crew: For each All Member Exhibit, the KAA holds an open Art Intake Session for members to submit their work. We also occasionally accept submissions to the gallery shop at this time. Volunteers check artists in, review their contracts and art labels, and inspect the condition and hanging hardware of submitted works.

Programming Committee: Network with the community and other KAA members to develop programming. This includes artist workshops, demos, art talks, music events, films, poetry, etc. Participate in set up and break down of events at the KAA.

New Member Orientation: The KAA is in search of dedicated, experienced volunteers who are able to network with new members, and offer New Member Orientations. These volunteers will educate new members about the submission process, volunteering, and all of the ways to get involved at the KAA.

Buildings & Grounds: Our volunteers assist with projects to help with the general upkeep of the building and its grounds. We occasionally need volunteers to help with interior/exterior maintenance and touch-up projects.

Fundraising Committee: This is a new category! The KAA is working on building a Fundraising Committee to develop ideas for fundraising events and activities.

Please note: This is a general list of the most common volunteer needs at the KAA. Volunteering is not always limited to these categories. Please feel free to email us with your ideas and feedback about volunteering with us: info@kitteryartassociation.org
