Kittery Art Association 2024 “Buy-A-Brick” Campaign to Raise Funds for Exterior Building Improvements

The Kittery Art Association invites you to purchase a brick, which will become a permanent part of the pathway through the grounds to the gallery entrance.

Two years ago, the Kittery Art Association sold its long-held property on Coleman Ave in Kittery, where it served hundreds of Seacoast artists of all ages and hosted thousands of visitors. The growth of the organization created the need for a bigger and more convenient space. Through a community survey and with town support, the KAA purchased the former Rice Library annex. Over the past year the KAA has undertaken extensive improvements, including new floors, ceilings, paint and renovations to turn the HUB (lower level) into an educational learning and meeting space. It is now a beautiful area in a central location and is experiencing increased visibility and visitorship.

Following the work currently underway by the State of Maine Transportation Dept at the corner of Walker and Wentworth Street, The KAA is taking the opportunity to create a beautiful, high-profile and welcoming revision to the front of the building.

The Buy-A-Brick Campaign will go towards exterior improvements such as rebuilding the entrance steps and landing, which are a partial safety hazard; resetting the brick walkway; creating a patio where a diseased tree on the corner of the lot was recently removed; adding granite benches to the patio; plants for landscaping; and possibly buying granite pedestals to act as bases for a sculpture garden. According to a recent estimate, these items add up to just under $65,000.

Though the project area is relatively small, its importance to the public and to KAA cannot be overstated. The space is in a prominent Kittery Foreside location and serves to invite the local general public as well as great numbers of visitors. This area will signal the welcoming nature of the organization, its programs and, in a sense, the overall community.

The deadline to purchase a brick is December 31, 2024.
