Artist Member – Tim Gilbert
Tim attended Syracuse University, because of the university’s School of Art. After his freshman year, which consisted of a basic art foundation, Tim majored in painting. His most important influence as an artist was Professor Larry Bakke. In both Bakke’s work and teaching activity there was a combination of intellectual content, artistic form and cultural awareness. It appears in his teaching through his emphasis on a three-level approach to the artistic process. The first is the intuitive and uninhibited projection of the individual on the canvas; the second is the analysis of visual form and the study of technical means; the third is the intellectual control which acts as a guide and discipline to the learning process of the first two.

About My Art:
My painting is a very emotional, visual interpretation of the world I live in. It tends to be structured, but also captures the soul of an environment, expressed through abstraction. I try to paint the nature and the motion of an imagined area, using light and color. The palette for any one canvas emerges from a limited number of colors and the overall colorations evolves as the painting evolves. My process of painting is a continuous search for spiritual, rather than the physical nature of our existence.
