Artist Member – Susan Goodby

An early interest in art and teachers’ encouragement did not originally propel me into an art career.  After graduating from college, I worked in group insurance which I found stifling.  After a planned very early retirement and a move to Vermont, my interest in art resurfaced, beginning with local classes, a week at the Vermont Studio Center, and eventually yearly painting classes in Italy.

I started working in oil then moved to acrylic and, after one inspiring seminar, began working in torn paper collage, developing my own techniques and style. After discovering  water based oils I began painting in oil again, and still  work in both collage and painting. I have received a number of awards in oils, acrylics, and collage.

Artist Statement

I love the subtleties of color and exploring the nuances is endlessly fascinating.  If there is any message in my work it is that joy springs from beautiful things.  The process of creating art is meaningful and satisfying to me, all the better, when it is appreciated by others.
